Chet Zar 06 with Ninja Academy!

I’m never one to pick favorites but I will say that working with Chet on his sessions for Sketch Theatre are always a total pleasure. You really can’t beat the experience of working with such a talented, cool and all around kind spirited guy. I know his characters are a little scary, but Chet is totally the opposite. I hope everyone who admires this amazing man’s work can one day meet him and experience that too!

Enjoy Chet Zar 06 with soundtrack by Ninja Academy!

Amy Botello and Neutral Milk Hotel

Amy Botello has arrived on Sketch Theatre. This California painter is a total sweetheart.  I can think of no better way to describe this gorgeous and extremely talented lady. Her paintings bring to life soulful and haunting beauties, and to bring forth this apparent quality in her work I chose a soulful and haunting number by the amazing Neutral Milk Hotel, the song is “Communist Daughter” from the critically acclaimed album “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”. I highly recommend spending more time getting to know both Amy Botello’s work and Neutral Milk Hotel. You may just have sweeter dreams if you do.

Ron English and Daniel Johnston!

I’m so thrilled to present the presence of the great Ron English on Sketch Theatre! It was really cooll meeting Ron at Comic Con this year, while shooting we chatted about music (mostly). Our time was brief, enough for one sketch, I had him in my hot seat for about 25 minutes before he was off to be swallowed up into the masses once again.

Bringing together his beautiful sketch work with the genius of Daniel Johnston was amazingly inspirational for me while creating this video. I really hope it does the same for you!

Steven Daily installment #2

It’s been far, far, far too long since you’ve all watched Mr Daily hasn’t it? I’ve been meaning to get you all a fix for a while now! Steven selected one of his very favorite tunes, from a very favorite band to accompany this sketch. This was shot amongst the chaotic backdrop of San Diego Comic-Con 2009, and a killer drawing was born!

Sketch Theatre 2.0!

Sketch Theatre 2.0, you’re looking at it!

If this is your first time visiting Sketch Theatre, welcome! You’ve come at a good time, not only is the site easier to navigate and packed with more features, it’s prettier too! We recently had a full redesign!

For those who are familiar with the site, I promise you an enjoyable experience. It’s easier to find our artists and videos because we finally have a search box! Who knew those would come in so handy? Also the artists pages themselves got a makeover so that the work and videos is displayed optimally.

We’ve also added an interview section to the site and have kicked this off with a great one given by Cameron Davis who discusses, among other noteworthy moments, his work creating the many characters of Guitar Hero.

Coming soon we’ll have a broader feature for our music section as well, I guess we’ll call that 2.1, and it’s coming in the very near future.

So now, please … peruse, and comment and keep the suggestions coming! I would love to know what you think of 2.0 …. up next I’ll be posting information about Sketch Theatre at this year’s San Diego ComiCon (July 23-26) we have a booth full of amazing artists for you to come check out! Stay tuned for the next post …

Cory Benhatzel

Check out Sketch Theatre’s  latest contributing artist Cory Benhatzel’s debut video here is a little insight from Cory’s blog about the meaning behind the sketch, very cool!

“Immortal Love”: a young albino crow sits protectively atop the skull of perhaps it’s dead parent or mate. The flower, Gomphrena, also known as Globe amaranth represents eternal love.

Welcome Tom Baxa!

Tom Baxa makes the kind of art that conjures up thoughts of the fantasy worlds of Dungeons and Dragons, Shadowrun, Vampire, Magic the Gathering, and World of Warcraft … that’s because …. well, he actually really does create those worlds!

If you’ve ever played any of those games, read the novels or picked up a game card deck you’re already familiar with this guy’s work, he’s the real deal … and now check Tom out in some chill time with a pencil and pad and watch him in his Sketch Theatre debut!
